Croft Middle Design Center 5th Gr...
Croft Middle Design Center, Nashville's "Zoo School", is a great place to learn! Through partnerships with the Nashville Zoo and Vanderbilt University, students are exposed to a variety of hands-on activities in zoology and STEM (science, technology. engineering and math). This year, we are taking a problem based learning approach to STEM and the problem the 5th grade class chose to address is the global water crisis! This Walk for Water is part of the solution the students want to employ to solve this very serious issue.
Crosswinds Arts and Science School
This is our second year with H2O for Life. Last year, the students participated as part of a Health Class. This year, in an ongoing effort to increase service-learning opportunities for our students, we are offering 9 sections of a Service-learning class. Last June, we began a tradition of an H2O for Life 5K Fun Run. This year, with more students and staff involved we're looking forward to even greater success.
CTA Independence
Our school has a new Global University where 5th and 6th graders work in a STEM Lab on hands-on, collaborative projects. We want the students to become global citizens and to have a service learning project that emphasizes awareness for a real-life concern.
Dakota Wesleyan University
Many universities claim to be “different.” At Dakota Wesleyan University, our deeply rooted values of lifelong learning, leadership development, faith exploration and genuine service to others are the cornerstones of what makes us “different.” Why DWU? Traditions embedded in our United Methodist values. Faculty who teach rigorously and care deeply. Students who exemplify synergism and develop lifelong friendships. Parents who entrust their children to the care of the college community. Faith leaders who embody conviction and principles in their ministries. Graduates who impact the world with their leadership and service. And donors who give willingly to sustain our efforts. These and countless other reasons make DWU different. Our student body is purposefully small. In fact, with a student-to-faculty ratio of 13:1, every student receives the well-rounded, personalized education they deserve.
Damascus Middle School
Water, sanitation, and hygiene are of critical importance to a school community’s health and way of life. Due to lack of access to private sanitation facilities at schools, many children and teens (especially girls) cannot attend school. Girls and boys spend much of their days carrying water—sometimes walking miles from their homes to the source and back.
Daniel Morgan Middle School
All of our 7th and 8th graders have read A Long Walk to Water and wanted to do a service project based on the ideas learned. We want to foster our student's desire to take action and have an impact on the world around them through service learning.
Daystar Academy
We are a preK-12th grade school in the South Loop of Chicago. Managing an after school fundraiser where students learn about water insecurity and participate in activities whilst acknowledging the struggles of students in Ghana aligns with my personal interests such as making a social impact, developing leadership and organizational skills, engaging with the Daystar community, and fostering our personal growth.
