UV Filtration System Installed at Ugandan School

The UV Filtration system installed at Kampala School for the Physically Handicapped (KSPH) is solar-powered and supplied by water from a 5000-liter rainwater collection tank located approximately 1.5m from the kitchen. The filtration system is activated by a solar switch connected to a solar panel on the kitchen rooftop. When the switch is turned ON, water from the rainwater collection tank is pumped into the filtration system, which comprises the sediment filter, carbon block filter and the ultraviolet (UV) chamber or stainless steel chamber. Quail Valley Students Dive In

At Quail Valley Elementary in Palmdale, CA, the 5th grade Special Day Class (SDC) students engaged in a Project-Based Learning Unit centered on the scarcity and importance of water. In this project, students investigated the concept of self-awareness concerning their environmental footprint and the effects of their choices and behaviors on the environment. They collected data on their families’ consumption of natural resources, such as gallons per minute. Through this exploration, students gained an understanding of the significance of self-awareness and the influence of our decisions and actions on our natural surroundings. Bulunda Project

Bulunda Primary School is located in Mpigi, Uganda, along the shores of Lake Victoria. BEFORE: Students and teachers struggled daily to find a safe space to ‘go’. This caused absence and health issues both from youth and teachers which affected education, poverty, and female health needs. There were no handwashing facilities and because they were so desperate for space, they created a barrier with leaves and poles behind a latrine for children to urinate. Students at Samuel Wolfson School for Advanced Studies in Florida are eager to collaborate with this project to deepen their engagement with global issues. By directing their club activities, they aim to address the immediate needs of a particular community, achieving tangible results.
