Shakopee SUN Club Walks for Water
Shakopee High School’s dedicated SUN (Students Understanding Nature) Club members are making impactful waves with their innovative environmental projects! One club member, H2O for Life High School Fellowship Program student Alex Chanthalinh, is raising awareness about the global water crisis and fostering empathy among participants by having them walk one mile while carrying gallons of water.
“Through the SUN Club, the Environmental Solutions class, and my H2O For Life Fellowship, I have been organizing a Walk for Water event at my school by meeting with other clubs and classes to teach them about the global water crisis and to build empathy,” said Alex. “A Walk For Water is a fundraiser in which students raise money to walk 1 mile, carrying gallons of water to symbolize the long distances many women have to travel for water. All donations will go towards building a borehole well that we sponsored at a school in South Sudan, which is currently facing water scarcity. It also reinforces the idea of how we can ‘think globally, act locally.’ I’ve attached an overview of the project below.”
