White Bear Lake Elementary Schoolers Visit The Local Water Treatment Plant
The students at Matoska and Willow Elementaries on White Bear Lake are teaming up this year for their annual H2O for Life Projects. The Water Warrior Clubs at both schools have been learning more about the Global Water Crisis as they prepare for their end of year Walk for Water.
They took their learning outside of the classroom earlier this month when they visited the local water treatment plant in their town for a tour.
Staff in the Water Division are responsible for the maintenance and operation of the Water Treatment Plant, which includes overseeing 5 water wells, 3 water reservoirs with a five million gallon total capacity, and 126 miles of water mains across the area. They are responsible for making sure that these students have access to safe, clean water in their community!
After learning a little bit more about water in their own community, the water warriors gathered at the Mariner Middle School to plan their Walk for Water Route and discuss what they can do to teach their community about water resources locally and globally.
They are putting on an incredible program at White Bear Lake that educates youth about science, engineering, and social studies, and gives them an avenue to take real-world action. H2O for Life is proud to support them in their work!
