Bukwaya Well Drilled
Bukwaya Primary School is located in the Iganga district of Uganda. The school has a pair of rainwater harvesting tanks that work great during and immediately after the rainy season but remain empty most of the year.
BEFORE:
The most often-used water source was a community well almost a mile away. Due to the lack of safe water sources in the area, the lines at the community well are always long, and the students miss a lot of class time walking to and from the well. Community members also waiting in line for the water often get upset at the children from the school, saying they are not from the area and that the well water was not for the school.
AFTER:
Our implementing partner, Drop in the Bucket, drilled a well to provide safe water on the school grounds. The children love having their own well on the school property so that they no longer have to wait in line and get into arguments with adults about water.
