St. Theresa Catchment Tank

Posted by Steve Hall on June 17, 2019

St. Theresa Primary School is located the Mpigi District of Uganda. The students at St. Theresa used to have to walk to a shallow well with pump that serves a population of about 3,000 people in this community. The walk to the shallow well includes a steep slope, dense vegetation and can be dangerous for students. Instances of harassment have occurred while students and community members have been fetching water. Having this new water catchment tank at the school will allow students to fetch water without having to leave the classroom and provide a reliable source of fresh rainwater to the students and teachers.

Check out your impact!

– You brought clean water to 304 people
– You eliminated 3.29 miles of walking per day
– You reduced collection time by 12.08 hours per day
– You replaced a Borehole or tubewell with a Rainwater Catchment System

Notes:
– Calculations are based the on number of 20 liter jerrycans used each day at this facility: 25 jerrycans
– One jerrycan per trip to original water source
– Distance is calculated for a round trip, using GPS, as the crow flies

Thanks to the following schools for supporting this project:
Immaculate Heart of Mary, GA
St. Joseph Catholic School, TX
St. Therese Catholic Academy, WA
