How to organize a Walk for Water for Earth Day
We all know that being a good steward of the Earth and its resources is something to consider every day of the year, but there’s one day each year set aside to recognize the importance of treating our planet with care.
If you’re looking for a fun, family-friendly way to celebrate Earth Day on Sunday, April 22nd, you might consider organizing a Walk for Water. Sound daunting? Don’t worry! It’s easier than you think, and we have a simple guide to get you started.
Who can organize a Walk for Water?
Anyone! Individuals, friends, classrooms, or schools have all held successful H2O for Life Walks for Water, and you can too.
A Walk for Water gives you the opportunity to:
- Learn about a local and global issue
- Raise awareness in your community
- Raise funds for a partner school in Africa, Latin America, or Asia
The Basics
Students, family members and community members walk 5 kilometers carrying containers holding 6 liters of water, either by hand or in a backpack. 5 kilometers is slightly more than 3 miles and is the average distance that many people in developing countries must walk every day to fetch water.
