Having a blast!
Yesterday we visited schools in Santiago Guatemala that received WASH in schools support from Matoska International, Forestview Middle School, and the Rivera girls (all from MN) who are on the trip with H2O for Life. We rode to the schools in the back of a pick-up truck which was great fun and enjoyed meeting all the students. Thanks to Jake, Montserrat and Tessa-the great staff from Pueblo a Pueblo that showed us around. Special thanks to former Ambassador to Guatemala, Jim Denham, for being our Spanish interpreter when the staff was not available. The WASH projects are very interesting and Pueblo a Pueblo is doing a marvelous job. The results are fantastic and we hope to connect with more schools in Guatemala!
Guatemala is beautiful and we have seen so many interesting things! Since arriving in Santiago- a mountainous area surrounded by volcanos- we have been mobbed at the local market- we looked like the pied piper, had great food and yesterday visited 4 schools. The children are beautiful and in this area the little girls- women ALL wear traditional indigenous clothing. The weaving and all textiles are gorgeous.
Today we take a boat across Lake Atitan to a small town and from there on to Antigua. Every day flies by. So far- great weather, a good group to travel with and great fun!
