A Long Walk to Water Cross Curricular Learning Guide - an integrated interdisciplinary package for Language Arts, Social Sciences and Math.

Students will use the method understanding by design to engineer a water filtration system.

Using formulas for Surface Area and Volume students identify the amount of rain water that can be caught in a rainwater catchment tank. With their background knowledge they will engage in the engineering process to design a Rainwater Catchment tank.

Evaluate the different sources of water on our planet and calculate how much of that water is available for human consumption.

Use a Rain Barrel at your school and document/observe data for the water collected.

Research various water-borne illnesses and how they are influencing communities.

In this lesson, students will investigate how water is made safe to drink in a modern water treatment facility. They will work as teams of engineers to study one step in the water treatment process: filtration.

Students will learn about the difficulties many people in the developing world face each day in obtaining water for their personal use and consumption, and explore their own water consumption.

Learn how to purify water through a water treatment experiment.

This is a project based lesson in which students will be able to utilize multiple academic skill sets, in order to persuade for the installation of rain gardens!

Explore Stormwater Pollution with an integrated STEM lesson.

This community project both investigates school or community water bottle usage and challenges students to come up with a solution!

This activity outlines a community event, including fundraising and organizing details. 4-6 weeks is the suggested timeline for the event planning.

Students will learn about deforestation and how this process pollutes the environment.
Students will learn how important forests are in keeping our bodies of water clean, as well as how trees can help prevent erosion and flooding.

Students participate in a Water Monitoring Experiment to test the quality of their local bodies of water.
