Women’s Production Program
The Women’s Production Program: Impact Design Lab, located in the Volta Region of Ghana, is a women-led social enterprise focused on sewing, batik tie-dye production, clothing designs, embroidery, and soap making. The program engages in these essential businesses to provide ready employment to rural women who successfully graduate from the Women’s Apprenticeship Program. The ultimate goal is to empower rural women economically so they can support themselves and their children, thereby eradicating poverty while creating styled clothes using ethical fabric. The program currently engages 52 women.
Our implementing partner, VARAS, has supervised the construction of a borehole well at the production center, along with the installation of a water storage tank. Water is essential not only for drinking, cooking, sanitation, and hygiene but also for producing batik tie-dye and soap, which ultimately generates revenue for the women and their families.
On behalf of the women, Abigail Adonkor, one of the workers at the Lab said, “My name is Adonkor Abigail. I am one of the seamstresses at Impact Design Lab. I would like to thank H2O for Life for helping us get access to water so our work here will be easy. This water project will enable us to start production of batik tie and dye fabric. Thank you.”
“Also, on behalf of VARAS, I would like to say thank you to The Westridge School, USA for sponsoring this water project. We couldn’t have done it without your support. This water project will go a long way to empower rural women and families economically, socially and ultimately eradicate abject poverty. Thank you.”
