Abutia Norvisi is a rural community located in the Volta region of Ghana. The population of Abutia Norvisi, according to the 2020 Ghana Statistical Authority, is 9,707. The major economic activity in the community is subsistent farming and hunting. The people are friendly and accommodating.

BEFORE:
The school’s borehole well has been broken for years, so the students must fetch water from the nearby community water source. Recently, the community borehole well broke, and now the students have to walk 3 km, each way, to another community to fetch water for drinking and sanitation. Now that the dry season is setting in, the situation will become worse as the pupils will have to wait in line for long periods to get their turn at the well. Time wasted fetching water multiple times per day has a negative impact on teaching and learning.

AFTER:
The community provided labor and much of the building materials (lumber/cracked stones), which can be found locally, to support the rehab of the school’s borehole. In addition, a pump has been installed, and PVC piping is being used to deliver water to a new poly tank, ensuring plenty of safe water for all students at all times. Our implementing partner, Volunteers for Amelioration of Rural Areas, will be in charge of ensuring the success of this life-changing project.
