The week of November 14-18, H2O for Life Ambassador, Katie Spotz returned to Minnesota and visited 8 schools in Minnesota. Katie is the youngest person to row solo across the Atlantic Ocean.

Katie shared her story with students K-8 during this visit. Her story is about perseverance, goal setting, and challenging your own capabilities to reach for the stars. Students were intrigued by her story-70 days alone on the ocean! Katie told of reaching the half way point on her journey where she had already rowed 1500 miles, but had 1500 more to go. She was overwhelmed but instead of giving up she changed her approach. She mentally broke the enormous task of 1500 more miles into rowing one mile- 1500 times. She challenged herself to row for the length of one more song, one more chapter on her audio book or one more minute. This strategy provided the mental energy that  allowed her to continue and reach her goal. She provided a great lesson for students to know that breaking down a seemingly insurmountable task, makes the task achievable when steps are defined. Katie continues to raise funds for clean water projects for schools and continues to inspire H2O for Life students to take on the challenge!
