H2O for Life was founded in 2007 and we are in the middle of our 7^th year as an educational organization connecting schools with local and global service-learning programs focused on the water crisis. As former H2O for Life students complete high school, enter college and enter the work force, they often share their stories.  We’re proud to have been a part of their academic growth and an influence, in part, on career paths they have chosen. We know that WATER will be a defining issue of the future and are inspired by the work that former H2O for Life students are doing.

Recently, Mary Rodgers, Service-Learning coordinator for Abington High School in PA shared news about three of her former H2O for Life club members.  Her first H2O for Life President, Ellen, in 2007 is now the Point Source Pollution Specialist for the State of New Jersey.  She is heading back to Abington on January 21, to present at the school’s annual MLK Day “Water Summit.”  Abington’s H2O for Life club invites surrounding schools to spend a day discussing water issues and defining actions that make a difference locally and globally.

Nathan, a college junior at American College in Washington DC is working as a research assistant at WASH Advocates in Washington DC. Nathan met WASH Advocates through H2O for Life when he became part of an exhibition on water hosted in DC. Nathan also was a presenter for H2O for Life at several national conferences. He stated that “H2O for Life opened the door to the global world.  I’m doing what I am doing today because of H2O for Life.” He intends to major in journalism and environmental studies to focus on issues of concern and advocacy for future environmental sustainability.

Emily, a junior, at Lafayette College in PA is a science and engineering major focusing on water.  She collaborates on a STEM summer camp program for youth focused on water and recently received a $50,000 fellowship to do research on hormones in water and the effect on marine life. Emily provided 7 STEM education lessons for H2O for Life’s curriculum that we are sharing with our network of schools. Emily represented H2O for Life as a speaker at several national presentations while in high school, including several National Youth Leadership Conferences and World Water Day in Washington DC.
