On May 30, Salem Hills Elementary in Inver Grove Heights MN held their annual Water Fest.  Salem Hills has been an H2O for Life school partner for 6 years- one of the original schools during our very first year. Each year, Salem Hills staff and students have added to their program.  The all school participation is truly amazing.

This year, Salem Hills submitted over 100 posters in an H2O for Life sponsored poster contest within the state of Minnesota.  We had over 600 entries and a Salem Hills student won!  Their school will receive a water bottle filling station to encourage the use of refillable water bottles.

The Water Fair includes exhibits by every classroom.  Through-out the day, students took turns manning the booth and visiting all of the other displays.  Students created intricate water games that were carefully constructed.  They built sample water aquifers, hosted a water jeopardy game, had a taste test of water to see if bottled water, filtered water or tap water won the taste test, built a lemonade stand, answered questions about Kenya-their partner country school, and more.  They even had a fortune teller!  Students purchased tickets for $.25 and had a blast visiting all of the booths.  Each class also designed a water t-shirt to wear for the event.  It was a very busy event, with lots of smiles and energy.

The school will culminate their event on Monday with an all school walk for water.

What was most impressive was the fact that every student that I talked to was excited to share with me what they had learned about water. Kudos to teachers, parents and all the students at Salem Hills that are participating in a service-learning project that is not only changing lives for their partner school, but is raising awareness and teaching students that their actions can make a difference.  Thanks Salem Hills for your 6 year partnership with H2O for Life.  See you next year!
