Latrine construction complete

This is a community run school located within Rushaga village just a few meters from the edge of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda. There are 120 pupils, including 25 from the Batwa (pygmy) tribe who were moved out of the forest when it became a gorilla reserve. Several of the pupils have to board (live) at the school to avoid long and dangerous daily walks through the forest. The teachers also live at the school.
The new latrines at Rushaga School were supported by the following US schools:
- Carmel Middle School, IN
- Crismon Elementary School, AZ
- Sissonville High School International Club, WV
The school has a water catchment tank (funded by H2O for Life in 2015) which makes water available for hand washing after toilet use. A “tippy tap” system will be set up adjacent to the new latrines so the students can wash their hands.
