Robert Anderson Middle School
Mrs. McDowell's College and Career Readiness classes read the book "A Long Walk to Water." Upon the completion of the book, they did a PBL to look at ways they could help address the problem in South Sudan and other countries alike. The students chose to either create a fundraising campaign, create a flyer/poster to publicize what is going on in South Sudan, or research a topic connected to the novel.
The students then voted on the best fundraising campaign out of all of the classes. The Chick-Fil-A fundraiser garnered the most votes, so we sold Chick-Fil-A chicken sandwiches. It was a life-changing opportunity for our students to be educated on a major global issue and be a part of the solution. This eye-opening experience taught them to appreciate the little things in life. Also, it was beneficial for them to plan the fundraiser and educate their peers about the water crisis in Sudan.
