Project

Marion Junior School

Uganda 388 beneficiaries Wakiso

Project Complete!

Marion Junior School is located in Wakiso district in the Central region of Uganda. The students have to travel 0.5 km to the nearest borehole, down a steep slope and through dense vegetation, to meet the school's water needs, however oftentimes in the dry season the borehole has a limited and inconsistent water supply.
Fetching water robs students of valuable class time; students have to wait between 30 to 60 minutes to get water. Children have to walk down a steep hill to fetch the water and then carry the heavy jerry cans up the hill back to the school. The buildings on this site are permanent and they have a great roof for collecting rainwater. A rainwater collection system at this school would cut down on the time that students travel for water and would provide a consistent source of water for the students and teachers.
Project Proposal: Installation of a rainwater collection system (RCS) on school grounds, 2 hand-washing stations, and community WASH education.
