Cheptuonik Primary School is located between Bomet and Kericho in Western Kenya. It is the tea growing area of Kenya and is within 90 minutes from the Masai Mara- one of the most famous wildlife reserves.
Cheptuonik has a rainwater catchment tank that is collecting water from the roof of the school. It has not been cleaned for 3 years. The collection point for the water is very difficult for the students to reach. 6 walls of the school and tank are considered learning walls with Kiswahili words/tenses, African map, heart, county names etc. The girls latrines are not functional, and handwashing stations are not available.
The WASH in Schools project provided through our non-governmental organization partner will install a pump at a more accessible water point and also to build a new girl’s latrine with 4 stalls. Hand washing stations will be installed with soap provided through school funds. A hygiene education training program will be implemented at the school with the creation of student hygiene committees and parent committees designated to collect funds from families going forward to assure maintenance and sustainability for the project.
H2O for Life partners with experienced NGO organizations around the world that build and support clean water, sanitation, and hygiene education projects in schools. These NGO partners cover half the total cost of every project funded through H2O for Life.
When students raise money for a project, 90% of the funds go directly to the project, and 10% supports the work that makes the project possible. This includes choosing trusted partners, managing funds responsibly, checking on projects, and reporting back so students can see the impact of their work.
This helps ensure every project is done well, stays sustainable, and truly changes lives.
In rare situations, we reserve the right to reallocate funds to alternate project(s).
