The programs of our implementing partner, GRAVIS, are mainly committed towards the well-being of the rural community, particularly marginalized children, women & elderly. The philosophy, in which GRAVIS believes, focuses on the holistic development of villages through water, education, and health amenities. Keeping this vision of organization in view, the objectives of the project are:

Create awareness on water, health & nutrition among school children.
To ensure safe drinking water in schools through bio-sand water filters
Improve the nutrition of children
To improve the school ambience through learning, sports materials, furniture, school dress, and stationery, leading to a better future for rural kids.
Tree plantation activities in school.

The following activities were performed:

Water, Nutrition and Health Awareness Camp for Children

Four Water, Nutrition, and Health Awareness Camps were organized in the school. In camps, kids were taught about hygiene and nutrition issues like bathing every day, keeping teeth clean, cutting nails, and washing hands before taking food. The trainer also taught them about the importance of a nutritious diet and the consumption of healthy foods.

Health checkup camps:
Four health checkup camps were organized to provide free check-ups for children and immediate relief to seasonal diseases. In camp, seasonal diseases, water-borne diseases, vitamin A deficiency, fever, coughing and colds, eye diseases, and other children-related problems were treated.

Bio-sand water filters:
To address various water-borne diseases and ensure safe drinking water for rural schools. The project installed two BioSand water filters for the school. BioSand Filters are designed as a local technology. A BioSand Filter (using 0.7 mm sand) would typically filter 14 liters at a time.

Tree planting:
Demonstration to create awareness and spread the message of saving our planet. Trees and plants were planted around the school grounds. It is important to create awareness and spread the message of saving our planet and contributing to the environment by providing oxygen, improving air quality, conserving water, preserving soil, supporting wildlife, and providing shelter, medicine, and tools.

Outcomes and Impact of the Project

Enhanced safe drinking water availability in school especially for children, through bio-sand water filters.
Improved health and nutrition awareness among children
Improved health through regular health check-ups
Improved school amenities and ambience in attaining quality education
