Project
Lycee nationale de carice
Established on November 4, 2002, “Lycée National Philippe Barthélemy de Carice” commonly known as “Lycée National de Carice” has been a cornerstone of education in the commune of Carice for grades 9-12. Despite years of dedication and perseverance, the school continues to face major structural and infrastructural challenges, limiting its ability to provide a fully supportive environment for its students.
The school comprises two buildings with eighteen classrooms, a construction process that has been ongoing for over fifteen years. School furniture and teaching materials remain insufficient, while access to electricity and water is extremely limited. The sanitary facilities are also in poor condition, posing serious hygiene challenges and affecting the health and comfort of students and staff.
The proposed project from our implementing partner, Unlocking Communities, includes:
Water filters:
Water filters:
- High-capacity LifeStraw filters will be provided; these are either LifeStraw Community or LifeStraw Max (LifeStraw Community is used in most cases, as it has multiple spigots, but LifeStraw Max may be used depending on availability). See photos for descriptions of each.
- 1 filter is provided for every ~200 students.
- Replacement parts for each filter for up to 5 years.
Training:
- Our local staff provides installation support and product training to school leadership or the individual responsible for filter maintenance.
- Our staff also provides related social behavior change training for students and school staff, such as water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) practices.
- If desired, school educators can also receive support in integrating WASH education into their own curriculum.
Introducing a reliable source of clean water at Lycée National Philippe Barthélemy de Carice will significantly enhance daily life at the institution. The project will improve hygiene, prevent waterborne diseases, and promote a healthier learning atmosphere. It will also ease the burden on students and teachers, allowing them to dedicate more time and energy to education. Ultimately, the initiative will foster better attendance, focus, and academic performance, while improving student and staff overall well-being.
H2O for Life is not a WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) project implementer. We have partnerships with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) implementing WASH in Schools projects around the world. Our NGO partners match funds needed for each school project. We also have a generous donor that provides us with an interest-free loan that, along with matching funds, allows for many projects to be started or possibly even completed before total funds have been raised. In rare situations we reserve the right to reallocate funds to alternate project(s).
