Nakaye Primary School

Uganda 412 beneficiaries Gomba

Project Complete!

Nakaye Primary School is in Nayke Village in the rural district of Gomba, Uganda.
Over 412 students and teachers rely on a failing 3,000-liter water tank. They walk most of the year to a pond shared with animals, a 3-kilometer journey on foot, to collect heavy, unclean water. The school also lacks filtration for clean water. These children have been waiting for a very long time for clean water filters for their classrooms and a reliable, ample water supply on site.
Based on the school buildings and roof catchment area, our implementing partner, Drink Local Drink Tap, has co-created the best water solutions with the school and community. This will include four classroom water filters, 20,000 liters of rainwater harvesting (two 10,000-liter systems), and the development and training of a school WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Education) committee for the long-term management and sustainability of the project.
