Project
Kirungu Primary School
Kirungu Primary School is in Nakijju Village in the rural district of Gomba, Uganda.
Over 263 students and teachers participate in a chore, walking a 2-kilometer journey to collect heavy water from a crowded community borehole. The school also lacks filtration for clean water. These children have been waiting for clean water filters for their classrooms and a reliable, sufficient water supply on site.
Based on the school buildings and roof catchment area, our implementing partner, Drink Local Drink Tap, has collaboratively developed the best water solutions with the school and community. This will include three classroom water filters, 20,000 liters of rainwater harvesting (two 10,000-liter systems), and the development and training of a school WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Education) committee for the long-term management and sustainability of the project.
H2O for Life is not a WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) project implementer. We have partnerships with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) implementing WASH in Schools projects around the world. Our NGO partners match funds needed for each school project. We also have a generous donor that provides us with an interest-free loan that, along with matching funds, allows for many projects to be started or possibly even completed before total funds have been raised. In rare situations we reserve the right to reallocate funds to alternate project(s).
