Project
St. Mugagga Junior School
Students at St. Mugagga Junior School currently have unreliable water sources including a small pond which is 4 kilometers roundtrip from the school. The pond is being shared with animals and other community members. Students face many challenges along the way while fetching water from the pond, including:
- They miss their classes and return to school exhausted.
- They often encounter dangerous creatures such as snakes.
- They get muddy and wet filling jerry cans from the pond, and the young risk drowning if unattended.
- The pond water is unsafe and contaminated.
Our implementing partner, Drink Local Drink Tap, will install a 20,000-liter rainwater harvesting system and durable, locally sourced classroom water filters that are easy to maintain. In conjunction with this initiative, the project will include educational signage, school WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene education) training, the formation of a WASH committee, and the planting of fruit trees.
H2O for Life is not a WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) project implementer. We have partnerships with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) implementing WASH in Schools projects around the world. Our NGO partners match funds needed for each school project. We also have a generous donor that provides us with an interest-free loan that, along with matching funds, allows for many projects to be started or possibly even completed before total funds have been raised. In rare situations we reserve the right to reallocate funds to alternate project(s).
