Walnut Creek Walks for Water

June 14, 2024
As you know our sixth graders embarked on a service learning project focused on one of our most important natural resources, WATER. This project came to the students organically as they researched and tested water, as well as read the novel, A Long Walk to Water. The kids discovered how unclean water and water scarcity is a common problem throughout our planet. These young learners decided to take action to help.
Throughout this project, these students were able to practice many real world skills that reached beyond the classroom. They brainstormed ideas, collaborated on a common goal, communicated and practiced leadership. Students were very proud of surpassing their initial goal, by collecting $2,301.99. We held our first ever, "Walnut Creek Walks for Water" to promote awareness and to celebrate our efforts. In the end, these 6th graders learned the importance of becoming positive and empathetic global citizens.
